There will be no weekend workshops in 2019

Dates for further workshops in this format are as yet undecided. There will be none of these workshops in 2019

In response to student’s requests for short courses concentrating on narrow aspects of the potter’s art, Douglas has been holding these 2-day weekend pottery workshops for the last 8 years. These workshops will be 2 days of intensive wheel work for beginners/improvers.

Clay preparation will be covered as well as the making of lids, handles and a wide range of forms. Pots are not normally fired from these making workshops but, just occasionally, one or two can be left to be wood fired if a firing is coming up, and a small charge will be made for this. With a mixture of group demonstration and one to one instruction, great strides in skill and appreciation can be made.  As ever we will be using our renowned Donyatt clay which we mix here at the pottery.  For students new to our pottery workshop, you will be working in a purpose built studio with first-class electric wheels and equipment.

Coffee breaks and meals are usually taken out in the garden when possible. Delicious lunches ( with wine) are provided, using our organic garden vegetables where possible. Good evening meals can be found in a variety of interesting pubs within easy reach of the pottery.

We can arrange bed and breakfast accommodation for you. Our students stay in private homes and farmhouses in or near the village. Alternatives are camping, hotels and inns (Lists can be supplied on request).

The fee for the weekend pottery workshops includes lunch, and a non-returnable deposit paid at the time of booking, with the balance being due 6 weeks before the workshop date. Should you have to cancel your deposit will be return if someone can be found to fill your place. Cheques payable please to J D Phillips
